This 17th Century Japanese Garden is one of the only nine premises through Japan dually appointed as “Special Place of Scenic Beauty” and “Special Historic Site” by the Government of Japan. It was originally a private property of the Mito Tokugawa family, but is now a public park operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The design and layout of the garden is known to have full of Chinese flavor under the influence of Mitsukuni Mito, a famous Daimyo, who is still a popular character among the Japanese.
