Kurena Ishikawa
Born in Saitama, Japan, Kurena Ishikawa began playing the double bass during her first year of high school. While still a student, she was discovered by internationally acclaimed pianist Makoto Ozone, which led her to enroll in the Jazz Studies Program at Kunitachi College of Music, where she studied bass under Yosuke Inoue and Ken Kaneko.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　In 2021, her performance of Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, recorded at Tokyo's renowned Cotton Club in Marunouchi, garnered more than 2.5 million views on YouTube, bringing her widespread recognition.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　In March 2023, under the production of Makoto Ozone, she made her major-label debut with her first album, Kurena, released by the prestigious jazz label Verve Records. The album release concert held at the Cotton Club in June of the same year was met with a sold-out audience.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Alongside her solo career, Ishikawa formed the pop duo soraya with pianist Kento Tsubosaka in 2022.
